The Saved! trailer is out. I'm really looking forward to this movie. :)
In more Blankets news, Top Shelf is actually releasing a Blankets soundtrack. And Craig Thompson has some more work coming out in July.

Trip Home From Europe Becomes Kafkaesque Ordeal

"I couldn't even spell my name anymore," Mrs. Croton said. "Nobody who hasn't had a little infant and traveled on a long-distance flight can understand. I said, 'I need to lie down. I'm shivering, I'm exhausted, I'm nursing.' '' But she said an officer retorted: "Stop crying. There were other people here with kids, and it's not going to get you anywhere."

Let it be known... I hate what this women went through. It makes me mad. I hate the administration that allows and condones this behavior-- all under the myth of "security". What is happening to our country? Has it always been this way? This is not the America that I believe in.

"The most dangerous man, to any government, is the man who is able to think things out for himself, without regard to the prevailing superstitions and taboos. Almost inevitably he comes to the conclusion that the government he lives under is dishonest, insane and intolerable, and so, if he is romantic, he tries to change it. And even if he is not romantic personally he is very apt to spread discontent among those who are."

Vision of the future:
My daughter will attend an assembly at her Elementary School, in which a high school senior gives them a cautionary tale of downloading music and movies off the internet.

Apologies to my Dallas friends...

Both our cars are seriously jacked up. And we don't have the money to fix either one. This month was (is) the most expensive month in my life. And it doesn't look like any more money is coming our way anytime soon. So, dear Dallas friends, it may be awhile before I'm able to hop in a car and drive to see you.

Someday, I'll buy a bicycle. I can run errands and get to work on bicycle. That'll work. And they are easy to repair too.

(this sucks...)

"Sometimes, when I'm sad, I think life was a commercial for something so much bigger, but then we ordered it and it was broken or didn't come."

For today's Writer's Workshop, the prompt was "If you could rule the world, what would you do?" Some of the responses were quite frightening. One student in particular wrote: "If I ruled the world, I would make every country be like the USA."

I have to give the student credit for his keen understanding of current US foreign policy. However, more appropriately it should read: "be like how the USA thinks it is."

IT'S A GIRL!

In about four hours, Melissa and I are going to the doctor. Melissa is getting the first official sonogram. (As opposed to all those unofficial ones?) In about four hours, we'll know if we're having a boy or a girl. We'll have actual photos of our baby inside the womb. Words fall short of how excited I am!!!!! The best I can do is use lots of exclamation marks!!!!!

For those who say finding out early ruins the surprise, today feels like a freakin' holiday! In a few hours, this blog will have my greatest post ever... my son? my daughter?

The wisdom of Allison Reynolds:
"When you grow up, your heart dies."
"I don't think that from a legal standpoint what he did can be construed as rape, since I paid him."
"I'm not a nymphomaniac. I'm a compulsive liar."
"I stole your wallet."

Our backyard has a tire swing. The previous owners left it here. Except instead of an actual "tire", it's a plastic fascimile of a tire. This means something.

Also...
Shanna posts, "And i didn't fit into their world view so they just didn't see me." An absolutely fascinating observation. As with most meaningful statements, we ought to turn it on ourselves. The question is: Who do I not see? I don't know, and that bothers me.
Melissa and I visited St. John the Apostle United Methodist Church today. A nice church, but it definately reminds of how much I hate visiting churches. Not that I hate church; I just hate the visiting process. Most everyone you meet acts so unnatural around you. They smile too much. They are way too interested in you. They are too anxious to invite you to stuff. They love their church way too much. This sort of desperation makes me uncomfortable.

St. John the Apostle really is a nice church. We're going back again next Sunday. We're even going to a... young adults Sunday School class. We were invited.

This upcoming Sunday, Melissa and I are planning to visit a church. We want to start attending worship services again. And since we just moved to a new house, I figure it's a good time.

St. John the Apostle United Methodist Church seems like a good place to check out. I visited this church when I was in high school, and (by my standards) they always were a healthy community. The pastor doesn't look too weird, i.e. no crazed politician smile. It's a smaller congregation, but not so small that you feel awkward visiting. They have a nursery and children's programs. (Yes, that's important to me now.) And any congregation that brings a llama (or whatever that is) to their annual BBQ is worthy of note.

"That sock-dog a few years back inspired me," Braswell says. "I thought, if a puppet can sell pet food, then a team of puppets like mine can certainly sell Jesus."

We have moved. New geography. And I am tired. The most lasting memory of this busy weekend was attempting to get the king-size bed out of the apartment and into the UHaul. It involved-- seven people, rope, and a balcony.
